bar italia – Fundraiser
London trio bar italia trade their usual shadowy mystique for full-throttle rock energy on “Fundraiser,” the opening track from their upcoming album Some Like It Hot. Named after the 1959 Marilyn Monroe film, the record drops October 17th via Matador and finds the band embracing bigger stages after 160+ shows worldwide.
“Fundraiser” sports the most immediate hook bar italia have ever written—a new wave guitar riff that could’ve come straight from XTC’s 1979 playbook. Nina Cristante, Jezmi Tarik Fehmi, and Sam Fenton still trade vocals, but now it feels like structured songwriting rather than their usual exquisite corpse approach.
After emerging from underground cult status with two acclaimed 2023 albums (Tracey Denim and The Twits), bar italia transformed from a shy, darkness-dwelling trio into a confident five-piece that gives multiple encores. That evolution shows—these songs twist their quirks into massive choruses, finding elevation in tension and blurring lines between emotion and performance.
Matt King (Peep Show’s Super Hans) stars in the video, perfectly matching the song’s kinetic energy. Following their sold-out London show at The Dome on October 18th, the band hits North America with support from Voyeur and Lifeguard.
